Villa Gazzotti was commissioned to Andrea Palladio by Taddeo Gazzotti in 1542. In 1550 the Villa, still not completed, was bought by Girolamo Grimani. There was an existing medieval tower that was incorporated into the building and can be seen on the south-east corner of the Villa, where the walls are 1m thick.
The Villa was subjected to many alterations: In the drawing of 1542 by Palladio the villa has a rectangular plan and does not present any staircases. On the other hand, in the 1778 drawing by O. Bertotti Scamozzi we can see that a staircase was added on the south front and another staircase and block were added on the north front.
A survey from 1968 by A. and E. Soltan show a different conformation of the staircase on the south front and the demolition of the northers staircase, as well as other stoppings of some windows and the opening of others. Furthermore, some wooden slabs had been built on the first floor.
From our survey in 2018 we found out that the northern staircase has been rebuilt and the windows that were closed had been reopened, and those who had been opened have now been stopped. In addition, the wooden slab that was built on the first floor has been removed only in the room on the south-east corner, where the tower can be seen, showing the vaults.
We have analysed the building materials and their degradation and we have made a project to restore them.
