The Brion Cemetery is located in San Vito d'Altivole, in northern Italy, and was designed by Carlo Scarpa in 1978. It was commissioned by Onorina Brion who wanted to honour her husband Giuseppe Brion, founder of Brionvega. They were both buried in this cemetery, with their relatives. Carlo Scarpa is also buried here, not inside the Brion Cemetery, but in the border between this and the town cemetery.

The walls are made in concrete and they show the footprint of the wooden formworks. Carlo Scarpa was a skilled expert in using different materials like concrete, wood, iron, glass, plaster. On some walls he inserted long panels of marmorino plaster on a bedding of cocciopesto, because the plaster cannot be applied directly on concrete. He divided it into panels because if the plaster was degradated you would not have to remove all of it, you would change the single panel.

To date, there are no well-established techniques to restore concrete, but some experimentations are being carried out.

The subject of our project is the corridor that leads to the sacristy, and we analysed the two walls from the inside, and the ceiling both from inside and outside. There are moisture infiltrations on the ceiling and walls and the concrete and plaster are very damaged, especially when they're exposed to the weather conditions. But the concrete walls are also affected by rising damp, so for this reason I planned on applying a sheath and a drainage at the base of the wall.
